From the Head of School

At Liggett we are committed to being a place where people meet to seek the highest. We want to be the cause of learning and doing great things. We embrace the creativity, passions, dreams and aspirations of all who come to us and from that wonderful mix of energy and hope, build a great school

From our beginnings in 1878, the year the Rev. James Liggett and his daughters opened a school for girls in Detroit, this has been a place that sought the highest and provided the skills and character that shaped a city and a region and a nation. We have shaped lives that shaped lives.

We are proud of our heritage and inspired by it. Today, we face the same challenges of a changing world, an economy no longer based largely on products but one more focused on ideas and creative thinking.

To prepare young men and women to take their place in shaping this evolving society and the challenges of a global environment, we lead our students from experience to understanding. We seek talented, creative, inventive minds that can engage in the fierce pursuit of ideas and the mastery of disciplines that empower our graduates to determine their own destinies and shape their own worlds.

We accept this challenge. We commit ourselves to the work of achieving this goal. We believe that in the pursuit of these highest ideals of the human intellect we also enrich the human heart: We aspire to be a place where people seeking the highest create holy ground.
