Welcome

As Michigan's oldest independent, coeducational school, Liggett is engaged in preparing young people for the challenges of the current century. Liggett enjoys a national reputation as one of America's top educational institutions, known for its innovative college preparatory curriculum, small class sizes, individual attention, and exceptional college counseling program.

Liggett - with its three divisions, more than 610 students and 100 teachers - stands in striking contrast to the modest Liggett School opened in a converted Detroit boarding house more than a century ago. Yet, despite the myriad global changes that have occurred in that span of more than 130 years, that legacy of excellence in education is alive today in our vibrant learning community. We are a school with a proud tradition yet—with our curriculum for understanding and our partnerships throughout the region--we are also connected to the future.

We do hope you will contact us and visit so you can experience firsthand our school spirit. Current Liggett students come from over 58 communities and the students in our Upper School come from 61 different schools. We are diverse in experience and ideas, but united as the Liggett Community. We are proud of our 20% enrollment growth over the past three years and of our recent successes in athletics, robotics, college placement and theatre. Our spirit is on display during Homecoming, Spirit Week, and Knights Nights, when the whole community, parents, students, alumni, faculty and friends turn out to support our teams. Once you apply to our school, we will be sure to invite you to these events.

Our curriculum allows its learners to explore their interests and pursue their passions. This year, our first group of seniors will complete the Academic Research Project, learning more about politics, faith, medicine, engineering, film and a host of other subjects. Please take a look at their videos located in the “Profiles of Learning” section of our companion website, www.liggettistheanswer.com.

Finally, this year we encourage you to inquire and apply online by clicking the links in the sidebar. If you have any questions about the online application or the visit process, please contact our office at the number below.
