Girls' Varsity Volleyball Coach

University Liggett School seeks a Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach for the 2025-26 spring season.

The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in athletics. The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Athletics. All coaching assignments are for one year and subject to annual approval of the Assistant Head of School for Athletics. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Adheres to the rules, regulations, and policies of the MHSAA and University Liggett School

  • Promotes and practices positive sportsmanship 

  • Upholds the core values of Liggett Athletics

  • Submits all required reports promptly and with accuracy 

  • Committed to professional growth 

  • Develops a good rapport with parents, community members, news media, teachers, and administrators 

  • Works with staff to assist athletes in maintaining eligibility

  • Responsible for the conduct and overall well-being of players and assigns proper supervision

  • Supervises assistant coaches and assigns them duties

  • Conducts regular meetings with coaching staff 

  • Meets with parents and players to discuss philosophy of program and the responsibility of coaches and players 

  • Ensures that facilities and equipment are maintained properly and reports needs appropriately

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma 

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community 

  • Working with district/state/federal laws and regulations relating to child welfare and attendance 

  • Prior successful coaching experience required 

  • Prior successful high school head coaching experience (preferred)

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all audiences 

  • Evidence of strong leadership ability 

  • Evidence of ability to motivate and teach, with a philosophy of coaching that is compatible with an interscholastic athletic program

  • Must be willing to complete levels of the MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program (CAP)

Staff Positions
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Head Coach Position

We are in need of someone to take on the position of Head Coach for the FIRST Tech Challenge (grades 6-8) program at University Liggett School (ULS). In order to build the robotics program at ULS and provide a pipeline of future FIRST Robotics Competition (Upper School Program) team members, the FTC Head Coach position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Summer (preseason)

  • Take inventory of current team supplies Learn about the FTC Program if currently unfamiliar with it
  • Attend any training that may be available to help build your skills relating to the program

Early Fall (kickoff/build season - September/October)

  • Lead kickoff meeting/activities the first Saturday in September
  • Plan and run practices/team meetings 2-3 days per week September through December (beyond that if the team advances to States/Championships)
  • Meetings take place after school and/or on Saturdays
  • Ensure that the practices are fun and engaging and that all team members feel welcomed/have a role to play
  • Teach middle school students how to use fabrication equipment and supervise the use of said equipment
  • Teach middle school students how to set up and program the electronics systems that control the robot
  • Guide students through the process of documenting their design process and assembling their documentation in to an engineering portfolio that is presented to the judges at competitions

Late Fall/Early Winter (November/December)

  • Chaperone/supervise team at competitions (2 per year, plus advancement events if they qualify) which take place in November/December, typically on Saturdays (approximately 7am - 6pm)
  • Transport/arrange for transportation of team equipment to and from competitions Spring IF the team happens to qualify for the Championship Event (AKA “Worlds”), plan transportation, lodging, meals, and
  • Chaperone/supervise team at the competition which is currently located in Houston Texas in Late April NOTE, this is a HIGHLY Unlikely scenario as very few teams from Michigan qualify to attend the event in Houston and the competition level is VERY high in Michigan Year Round (as needed)
  • Help secure funding for the program through grant applications sponsorships, and/or fundraising opportunities Participate in outreach events to generate interest in the program and recruit team members to grow the program
  • Send weekly communications to team members and families regarding upcoming events and progress of the team
  • Recruit and work with other adults and upper school team members to facilitate mentoring of students

Qualifications

  • Prior participation in or knowledge of FIRST Robotics Programs as a student and/or mentor/coach Background in Design, Fabrication, and/or Controls of robotic systems
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on STEM Education 
  • Exceptional communication skills, including strong written, oral and presentation skills
  • Proficient use of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite  Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional setting
  • Effectively manages and engages middle school students in learning opportunities 
  • Excellent time management and project planning skills 
  • Proficiency in supporting team sustainability through membership recruitment and fundraising 
  • Demonstrates exemplary personal and professional ethics in keeping with ULS’s Community Values
  • Embraces all elements of ULS’s Mission

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time, stipend position. Limited travel and occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

Bus Driver

Position Summary

University Liggett School is seeking Bus Drivers to transport students over specified routes to and from school and special events.  Route drivers have regular five day per week routes. Event drivers have fluctuating schedules based on scheduled school activities and events and may drive an occasional route.         

Essential Responsibilities

  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive a school bus. 
  • Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all bus passengers and the vehicle.
  • Arrive at pick-up and drop-off points in a timely manner.
  • Reports all accidents immediately; requesting police or ambulance service as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with students, parents, staff, and colleagues.
  • Participates in all required training.
  • Check weather conditions and road reports before departures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or other appropriate administrator.

Position Requirements

  • A valid Michigan Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possess a valid Michigan CDL with B, P, S, endorsements and acquire a Michigan Department of Education bus driver card within 90 days of hire.
  • Driving experience in transporting passengers.
  • Training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be capable of working independently and possess the ability to understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Must possess basic first aid and CPR certification or be able to obtain it.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a good knowledge of bus operation and traffic laws.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor.
  • Alert, focused, and detail oriented.
  • A self-starter who works well independently.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, use hands, use foot controls to drive, reach with hands and arms; climb, bend, kneel, and stoop; and talk and hear.
  • Must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to use emergency exits at any location on the bus.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

The job responsibilities are performed on a bus; Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions.

Facilities Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a key role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the school campus. This position is responsible for supporting the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as overseeing general groundskeeping, including the care of artificial turf. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise, a strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities:

HVAC & Building Systems:

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain HVAC systems using Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Perform preventative maintenance on boilers, chillers, and related systems.
  • Conduct general repairs, including electrical, plumbing, lighting, drywall, and door hardware.
  • Maintain accurate logs of system performance, repairs, and inspections.

Grounds & Artificial Turf Management:

  • Inspect and maintain artificial turf, including debris removal, seam repair, and infill leveling.
  • Perform groundskeeping duties including mowing, trimming, weed control, and snow removal.
  • Support setup and takedown for school events and activities.
  • Maintain all outdoor areas including courtyards, parking lots, and landscaped grounds.

Preventative Maintenance & Safety:

  • Develop and follow preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and systems.
  • Conduct daily facility inspections to address issues proactively.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety codes and school policies.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Operations to manage daily priorities and tasks.
  • Work with and supervise external contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies and maintenance requests as required, including occasional off-hours.

Position Requirements:

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Certifications such as EPA 608 Universal, low-pressure boiler license, or turf/landscaping certification are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in facilities maintenance, HVAC, or groundskeeping; experience in schools or institutions preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with HVAC systems and general building operations.
    Experience using maintenance management systems is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe, functional environment.
  • Ability to operate power tools, lawn care equipment, and other machinery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
  • Able to climb ladders, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces or in inclement weather.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors across a large campus.

Schedule:

  • Regular hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Flexibility required for seasonal changes, after-hours emergencies, or weekend events.
