Faculty Positions

Middle School Physical Education teacher

The Middle School physical education teacher will support the mission and vision of University Liggett School through positive interaction with students and faculty.  Specifically, it is the Middle School physical education teacher’s responsibility to ensure that the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plan are the center of all decisions and actions. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach four or five sections of Middle School physical education
  • Create a class environment that is devoted to high level learning in physical education

  • Design and implement lessons that teach higher order thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and other essential skills in physical education

  • Provide excellent, rigorous instruction that advances all students’ mathematical thinking, fluency, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Create a class environment that is centered upon differentiated instruction, providing opportunities for every student to advance their skills and stretch student thinking and imagination
  • Create an equitable and inclusive class environment that promotes community, integrity, respect, excellence, and empathy

Athletic Positions

Girls Varsity field hockey coach 

University Liggett School seeks a Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey Coach for the 2026-27 fall season. 

The oldest independent co-educational day school in Michigan, University Liggett School is among the preeminent PreK-12 institutions in the Midwest. Summary: The Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey Coach is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in athletics. The Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director. All coaching assignments are for one year and subject to annual approval of the Athletic Director. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Adheres to the rules, regulations, and policies of the MHSAA and University Liggett School
  • Promotes and practices positive sportsmanship

Staff Positions

Bus Driver

University Liggett School, an independent, coeducation school for grades PreK3-12, has a long tradition as an outstanding school, known for providing the kind of innovative and exploratory experiences that connect a diverse student body with their learning in dynamic and engaging ways.  It is an inspiring place where ideas and possibilities abound. Position Summary

University Liggett School is seeking Bus Drivers to transport students over specified routes to and from school and special events.  Route drivers have regular five day per week routes. Event drivers have fluctuating schedules based on scheduled school activities and events and may drive an occasional route.         

Essential Responsibilities

  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive a school bus. 
  • Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all bus passengers and the vehicle.
  • Arrive at pick-up and drop-off points in a timely manner.
  • Reports all accidents immediately; requesting police or ambulance service as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with students, parents, staff, and colleagues.
  • Participates in all required training.
  • Check weather conditions and road reports before departures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or other appropriate administrator.

Position Requirements

  • A valid Michigan Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. 
  • Possess a valid Michigan CDL with B, P, S, endorsements and acquire a Michigan Department of Education bus driver card within 90 days of hire. 
  • Driving experience in transporting passengers. 
  • Training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. 
  • Must be capable of working independently and possess the ability to understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions. 
  • Must possess basic first aid and CPR certification or be able to obtain it.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a good knowledge of bus operation and traffic laws.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Lower School Divisional Coordinator

The Lower School Divisional Coordinator will support the mission and vision of University Liggett School through positive interaction with students and faculty.  Specifically, it is the Lower School Divisional Coordinator’s responsibility to ensure that the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plan are the center of all decisions and actions. The Lower School Divisional Coordinator will support an atmosphere of trust and openness among faculty, students, and parents and will foster the intellectual, social, physical, behavioral, and emotional growth of each student.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Lower School, the Lower School Divisional Coordinator serves as an office manager, special projects coordinator, and administrative assistant for the Head of Lower School. Versatility, multitasking, flexibility, and adaptability to changing responsibilities are skills vital to success in the role of Divisional Coordinator.  The position will offer support to multiple departments throughout the School on an as-needed basis. The position requires leadership and professional maturity, discretion and professionalism in dealing with sensitive and confidential information, and experience managing operational team support in an exciting and demanding work environment.

Administrative Duties

  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the Lower School office
  • Create and maintain the Lower school master block schedule in Veracross
  • Build and load student schedules in student management system 
  • Answer phone calls, schedules meetings and support campus visitors
  • Support and maintain schedule coordination for the Lower school Head
  • Submit facility and space use requests as needed
  • Manage daily and long-term attendance and student progress reporting
  • Create and maintain Lower School master roster
  • Facilitate faculty coverage and substitute teaching responsibilities
  • Order, organize and maintain office and educational materials
  • Support medical services as needed. 
  • Assist with the coordination of safety and security drills training and procedures; including maintaining the Lower School portion of the master reunification plan
  • Organize and maintain all Lower school student records, both electronic and paper-based, from enrollment through the withdrawal process or promotion to Middle School. Ensure adherence to academic policies, data integrity and record retention. Process record requests from schools or parents, in compliance with school policies and state law.
  • Manage projects as assigned, both ongoing processes as well as independent projects
  • Manage a variety of reports utilizing proper databases, including the Google Suite and Veracross systems
  • Troubleshoot Lower school printer/copier issues. Maintain paper supplies for Lower school. 
  • Create transportation and field trip forms. Ensure all participants are authorized to attend the trip
  • Provide temporary coverage for front desk reception as needed.

Student Relations 

  • Be an example for a positive community founded on the Mission and Core Values
  • Develop trusting and supportive relationships with students, faculty and families. 
  • Monitor and record daily student attendance, assist with the arrival and dismissal of students each day.
  • Oversee student early dismissals and late arrivals utilizing the School Pass system; signing students in and out of school.
  • Work with the Head of Lower School and Lower School teachers to organize and plan school activities
  • Meet regularly and work effectively with the Head of Lower School and faculty to coordinate grade-level activities, promote open communication, and ensure consistency and alignment across the division
  • Assist the Head of Lower School and Lower School teachers with end-of-school-year activities and programs
  • Create promotion certificates, Lower school awards, and Class Day program
  • Work with the school yearbook staff and Lifetouch to plan and organize Picture Day
  • Be available to meet over the summer for pre-determined planning day(s)

Parent Relations 

  • Maintain an accessible, open-door climate for families
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct calls as appropriate, and assist students in contacting parents or guardians
  • Assist with planning of Orientation to Lower School events and communication
  • Provide a timely and sensitive bridge between families and the school to maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Draft and distribute Lower School communication to families, as directed. Edit and format correspondence from the Head of Lower School to school to the divisional community, as requested
  • Work with the University Liggett School Parent Association and other volunteers to communicate activities, reserved meeting times and facilities
