Elementary Music Teacher PreK-5 (Orff)

University Liggett School, an independent, coeducation school for grades PreK3-12, is searching for an experienced music teacher who is trained in the Orff Schulwerk approach, to lead the Lower School music program for PreK-5 grades.  The instructor will be responsible for teaching daily classes, managing the collection of Orff instruments, leading a winter and a spring performance and integrating music into project approach work through collaboration with teachers in PreK-5.  The ideal candidate will be willing to offer additional after school programming to enrich the Lower School music experience.

University Liggett School has a long tradition as an outstanding school, known for providing the kind of innovative and exploratory experiences that connect a diverse student body with their learning in dynamic and engaging ways.  It is an inspiring place where ideas and possibilities abound. Like any school, there are traditions which form the foundation of our work in the community, and our foundation is strong. Our charge is to be better than good enough, and to understand that risk taking, innovation, and creativity lie at the center of good teaching and learning for our students and our faculty.

Departmental Philosophy and Mission

The Department of Creative and Performing Arts at University Liggett School is dedicated to serving the mission of the school by offering a wide array of creative outlets in all of the art forms that allow students to grow as creative individuals.  We will do so by providing innovative teaching, excellent resources and materials, and a disciplined based approach to the study of the arts as part of the core curriculum. Our successes will be measured by our ability to exceed national arts education standards.

The true purpose of the arts education is not necessarily to create more professional dancers or artists.  It is to create more complete human beings who are critical thinkers, who have curious minds, and who can lead productive lives.

A degree in music education as well as Orff training is required.  The ideal candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience, be creative, energetic and flexible;
be an effective communicator; be experienced and comfortable leading performances; be well organized and enjoy being part of a team.
