Lower School Librarian (part-time)
University Liggett School, an independent, coeducation school for grades PK3-12, is searching for a part-time librarian to lead the Lower School library program for grades PK-5. The librarian will be responsible for managing the collection in both print and electronic form, working with classes, integrating digital research instruction, and supporting classroom project approach and literacy initiatives by working with teachers in grades PK-5.
University Liggett School has a long tradition as an outstanding school, known for providing the kind of innovative and exploratory experiences that connects a diverse student body with their learning in dynamic and engaging ways. It is an inspiring place where ideas and possibilities abound. Like any school, there are traditions which form the foundation of our work in the community, and our foundation is strong. Our charge is to be better than good enough, and to understand that risk taking, innovation, and creativity lie at the center of good teaching and learning for all of our students and our faculty.
The librarian will identify and apply appropriate principles, protocols, standards and emerging technologies to both print and digital formats. It is our hope that our librarians will become curators of information for our school community in an effort to address changing information and communication needs of students and faculty.
A degree in library science or information science as well as experience in school libraries is preferred. The ideal candidate will be well versed in children’s literature; be creative, energetic and flexible; be an effective communicator; be experienced and comfortable with technology; be well organized and enjoy being part of a team.
