University Liggett School launches new summer camps
University Liggett School has launched four new summer camps – focusing on math, STEM, robotics and building self-esteem – for students in grades two through nine.
Summer Programs begin June 24th
New this year are: Math In Action!, Robotics: Competition FLL Team Summer Camp, STEM© Camp, Courtesy of The Flint Ignites Program and Kids Empowered: Fun with Harry Potter®.
Math In Action! gives students in grades two through five a chance to stretch their mathematical minds through games and manipulative challenges. Campers will play math games, complete challenges through building mathematical models and use manipulatives to discover the “why” behind the algorithm. Campers will engage with peer mathematicians to strengthen their number sense. Math In Action! will encourage fun with math.
Robotics: Competition FLL Team Summer Camp, for rising fourth and fifth graders, will focus on completing the tasks required for the 2019-20 FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition, which will include building a robot to complete the tasks in the game, programming the robot, creating a project to meet the requirements, and participating in team building activities to learn the FIRST Lego League Core Values. Participants will be led by current/former high school robotics team members/coaches.
STEM© Camp, Courtesy of The Flint Ignites Program will bring STEM to life using real-world, emerging tech like drones, high-end virtual reality, 3-D printing pens and snap circuitry. Campers will get extraordinary hands-on experiences with cutting-edge equipment, and exposure to the tech and STEM concepts actually used by professionals in science, technology, engineering and math. It’s incredible fun, while sparking interest in future academic and career paths in STEM with activities like building 3-D printed bridges, creating summer snow, microcontroller experiments, and more. This camp is for rising fourth through ninth graders.
Kids Empowered: Fun with Harry Potter® will utilize the fun and magic theme of Harry Potter! Campers will learn and grow through Harry Potter themed crafts, games, movies and role-play. They will become versed in how to get into the “friendly house,” and how to respond in an empowered way to the “Slytherins.” Campers will learn about managing stress/emotions and being brave like Harry. Kids will also learn how to manage the “chambers of secrets,” and the impact of the “brewing of gossip.” Most importantly, we will learn the magic spells to shut unfriendly situations down. Camp includes Harry Potter themed mindfulness games, role-playing and physical activity. Harry Potter camp is open to rising second through fifth graders.
Returning this year to the University Liggett School Summer Programs line-up is Mad Scientists camp. Rising second through fifth graders will discover their inner scientist through hands-on activities and experiments.
These specialty camps are offered through University Liggett School Summer Programs, which also offers a six-week Day Camp, Junior Day Camp and weekly sports camps for students in PreK3 through 12th grade. All Summer Programs are held on the campus of University Liggett School. Dates, rates and times vary.
