STUDENT-LED IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

LEADERSHIP

Each student is able to share their opinions each and every class period – everyone is heard.  There are no microphones or no classes where you simply can’t get your question answered!

CONFERENCES: PERSONAL, ACADEMIC GROWTH

Liggett’s Middle School has taken a unique approach to traditional parent-teacher conferences by letting students lead the conference.

The student-led conferences inspire confidence and let students become active participants in the learning process. During the 20- to 30-minute conference, students present to their parents and their advisor, evaluating their successes and challenges in school.

Some students put together a multimedia or digital presentation while others use reflection journals as a guide. During the process, the students evaluate what they’ve done well and what areas they could improve upon. Some parents have compared the conferences to self-generated employment reviews that are done in many workplaces.

MORNING MEETING

Everyday at Liggett’s Middle School starts with Morning Meeting, a student-led gathering that includes announcements, performances, videos, student achievements are celebrated or a message that sets the tone for the day. Each Advisory takes turns leading Morning Meeting.

CLUBS

Student-led clubs in the Middle School are a chance for students to explore and share their passions with their fellow students while gaining leadership skills and building confidence. Each year, students must sell their club idea to their classmates and recruit members.
