University Liggett School Alumni Weekend 2018 was a huge success thanks to the more than 300 alumni who were back on campus on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, for two days of activities and events.
A highlight of the weekend was the induction of our 2018 Distinguished Alumni Keith Richburg '76. Richburg spoke to our Upper School students on Friday at community time and then he gave a witty, touching and exceptional acceptance speech on Saturday night at the All-Alumni Cocktail Reception attended by more than 250 guests.
At the All-Alumni Cocktail Reception we also announced our 2018 Giving Awards including the 2018 Class Cup Winners: the Class of 1958 GPUS with 32% class participation and the Knight’s Circle Award winners: the Class of 1983 with more than $255,000 in charitable donations to the school.
Our 2018 Loyalty Award Winners
were also announced during the Cocktail Reception. The Loyalty Awards are given to alumni who are celebrating a milestone reunion this year who have donated to the school for 20 consecutive years or more.
Thank you to the following alumni for your loyalty to the school.
The 2018 Spring Raffle winners were drawn and for the first time in a long time all three winners were alumni. The winner of the third place prize, the Shinola Bikes, is Tony Alcantara '81; the winner of the second place prize, earrings from Ahee Jewelry, Muffy Milligan '73, was in attendance at the party and the winner of the grand prize, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado is Alex Georgopoulos '78.
Thank you, Alumni for supporting the Raffle and thank you to all our generous alumni for your generous and on-going support of the school.
On Friday, our 5th grade students met their 50th reunion alumni "pen pals" at a special meet and greet in their classrooms.
Other highlights of the weekend included our third Annual Golden Knights dinner with new Head of School Bart Bronk and the ever-popular bus tour of Detroit hosted by Faculty/Coach Emeritus David Backhurst.
A complete recap of Alumni Weekend will appear in our fall Perspective magazine.
Thank you being here and making 2018 Alumni Weekend one for the ages!
