ALUMNI EVENTS

Join us for a variety of alumni events that are held throughout the year!

Alumni events offered throughout the year include:

Alumni Weekend: Alumni Weekend is our signature alumni event, where we welcome all University Liggett School alumni back to campus for a weekend of events filled with fun, camaraderie and engagement.

Athletic Hall of Fame: Each year, in the fall, we honor selected outstanding alumni athletes at our Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony, which was created to honor and celebrate the rich athletic history of University Liggett School and our predecessor schools.

Homecoming Saturday: Visit campus and cheer on the Knights at various sporting events, including football throughout the day. You can also help out in the alumni cook tent, which is a great place to see lots of alumni and friends.

Local Alumni Events: In addition to the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame, Homecoming and Alumni Weekend, we offer a number of local alumni events including our annual Alumni Hockey and Soccer games and social gatherings in Grosse Pointe and the Detroit metro area. Through these events you can stay connected and participate in Liggett life.

Regional Alumni Events: Don’t live in the area? We always try to connect with alumni when we are on the road! If and we are headed to a town near you we will be sure to get in touch so we can to connect for coffee, lunch, dinner or an alumni gathering.

ALUMNI MENTORING

Calling All Alumni: We Need Career Mentors!

The Alumni Board of Governors is working hard to create a University Liggett School career network so that alumni of all ages can use their connection with the school to further their own careers and/or help other alumni to do so as well.

We also want to connect current high school students who need help with their Academic Research Projects with Alumni Mentors in a given field who can assist them with some (or all) elements of their chosen project/topic.

ARP Alumni Mentor Job Description:

The academic/professional mentor is an internal or external expert who works closely with the student. The mentor:
• Helps the student establish a practical methodology for completing the research
• Provides expertise and resources that refine and enhance the project, including, when possible, internship opportunities
• Consults with the student and tutor on the feasibility of the goals and plans of the project
• Provides feedback and guidance on the progress and quality of the project
• Provides opportunities for the student to share the work with a broader professional audience

An effective mentor/student relationship requires regular communication, typically via email, between mentor and student and at least one real-time (phone or in person) conversation per month. Mentors can expect to devote 2-4 hours per month until the student completes his/her project.

If you think you could lend a hand in these areas, please contact, Katie Durno, at 313.884.4444, ext. 414, or e-mail her at kdurno@uls.org.
