Cross Country

IN THIS SECTION

Cross Country at University Liggett School is a coed sport where boys and girls train together but compete in separate races. Athletes race in 5K events, facing off against teams from across the state at various parks and geographically diverse venues.

In 2021, the girls' cross country team claimed the MHSAA Regional Championship, while the boys' team finished as Regional Runner-Up. Both teams qualified for and competed at the 2021 State Championship held at the Michigan International Speedway, showcasing their talent and determination on a state level.

With over 20 years of running experience and several seasons coaching the Cross Country team at University Liggett School, Coach Katie Sime is a dedicated leader who embodies the spirit of excellence that ULS values. In addition to her role as head coach, Katie serves the ULS community as a Lower School Physical Education teacher, where she fosters a love for fitness and movement in younger students.

Katie believes every athlete has the potential to succeed, emphasizing that competition is not just about racing others, but about personal growth and self-improvement. Her coaching philosophy is centered around the unique culture of Cross Country, where runners push themselves to surpass their own limits.

She is committed to creating an environment where each athlete can strive for their personal best, understanding that effort directly correlates with reward. Coach Sime nurtures a sense of community among her runners, instilling the importance of empathy, respect, and support within the team. Under her guidance, students not only develop their physical abilities but also grow in character, learning that integrity and personal achievement go hand in hand.
