University Liggett School is among a select group of 140 leading independent, public, and charter schools from around the world—and one of only two schools in Michigan—offering online courses as a member of Global Online Academy (GOA).
GOA's mission is to reimagine learning to empower students and educators to thrive in a globally networked society.
Through GOA’s innovative asynchronous courses, students engage in advanced topics not normally found within a high school curriculum, such as Bioethics, Neuropsychology, Game Theory, Medical Problem Solving, Computational Thinking, and Introduction to Investments. They also meet with our full-time teacher who serves as the GOA site coordinator and provides ongoing guidance and program support to ensure students achieve their ambitious goals.
In alignment with the Liggett Approach, this special program fosters next-generation learning skills while connecting our Middle and Upper School students with teachers and peers who represent a wide range of cultural perspectives. That exposure inspires student inquiry, critical thinking, and the capacity to engage confidently in critical global conversations.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity ULS has provided me with in this new GOA partnership. The GOA program is helping us better prepare for our future jobs and fields of study, and getting ahead of our peers in college with our previous experiences will be extremely beneficial.

Taking a GOA class is such a refreshing challenge. You have to manage your time wisely, collaborate with people across the globe, and learn things at a quicker pace. But my peers, teacher, and the content itself, makes each day of learning a fun one. And I’m so glad that I made this choice!
