At University Liggett School, Middle School is a dynamic, immersive experience that extends well beyond traditional academics. Here, students are encouraged to explore new interests, build meaningful connections, and develop essential life skills through a wide range of co-curricular programs, clubs, and leadership and enrichment activities. From STEM and creative arts to advisory programs and leadership roles, every opportunity is designed to nurture curiosity, build essential skills, and support each student’s unique journey.

Middle School students at ULS are integral members of the broader school community, actively participating in mentorship programs with younger students and setting positive examples as role models. They have access to advanced facilities, including science labs, and engage in school-wide events that foster a sense of belonging. Opportunities to collaborate with Upper School students further support their academic, social, and personal growth, preparing them for the next steps in their educational journey.

Advisory Program: A Network of Advocates for Every Student
Our Advisory Program ensures that every Middle School student is known and has the support they need to succeed, both academically and personally. Meeting daily, the program is designed with four key goals:

After-School Enrichment Program

After school MS

Our after-school programs provide additional academic enrichment, offering students structured study time, peer tutoring, and personalized support to further their academic success and boost their confidence and achievement.

After-School Supervision

For students who are not participating in after-school activities, we offer supervised after-school care until 5 p.m. at no additional fee. This option provides a safe, supportive environment for students to relax, play, or complete homework.

Peer Tutoring Program

MS Class

The Peer Tutoring Program pairs Middle School students with Upper School tutors to provide one-on-one academic support, helping students deepen their understanding, improve their study habits, and achieve their academic goals.

In addition to our comprehensive three-year Physical Education program, the majority of students also participate in school athletics and clubs, further developing their skills and fostering teamwork and discipline. Students in the Middle School not only participate in foundational and elective arts classes, but they also have opportunities to take center stage in the Performing Arts programs, including the chance to join the Upper School’s spring musical. The arts are a vibrant part of student life at ULS, where students can nurture their creative talents and explore new forms of self-expression.

MS STEM

Our Innovation and Design classes spark creativity and ingenuity, but students can also dive deeper into technology and engineering through opportunities such as:

  • Innovation and Design Lab: Open beyond class hours, this space allows students to bring their ideas to life through hands-on exploration in areas like video game design, 3D printing, and crafting.
     
  • Girls Solve IT: Sponsored by the Michigan Council of Women in Technology, this program challenges girls to tackle coding projects and empowers them to pursue technology with confidence.
     
  • FRC Robotics: Students collaborate on STEM challenges, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, while enhancing teamwork and resilience.
